MIT Festival Jazz Ensemble - Flexing for Half a Century

Saturday, November 17, 2012. MIT Festival Jazz Ensemble, Frederick Harris, Jr., music director, Mark Harvey, guest composer-conductor. In the second program of their 50th Anniversary season, the MIT FJE performs Mark Harvey’s Flex, commissioned by the ensemble in 2000. The concert also features composers associated with the FJE over its history including Ellington, Mingus, Sharifi, and Klein, as well as original music by its current musicians. 8PM, Kresge Auditorium. FREE in Advance or $5 at the door.

The Music and Theater Arts section provides students at MIT the opportunity to experience the unique language and process of the arts. Faculty and teaching staff help students understand art’s demand for rigor and discipline and its non-quantitative standards of excellence and beauty. A strong, comprehensive program in both music and theater arts—encompassing history, theory, and performance—is taught by faculty and staff of the highest caliber.
